Cloud-Native Deployment Option for BRM

Oracle’s flagship business support systems (BSS) product, BRM uses microservices and Kubernetes-orchestrated containers. Although cloud-native BSS solutions are becoming a core component of the telecoms industry, CSPs need to align with the agile principles to maximize the benefits of cloud-native software.

The cloud-native deployment option for BRM was introduced two years after the launch of Oracle Monetization Cloud (OMC), the vendor’s SaaS-delivered BSS product. While the two products have a similar development roadmap, cloud-native BRM equips CSPs with more flexibility in how the product is delivered.

OMC is only available via Oracle’s public cloud, but BRM can be deployed in several environments, such as on-premise, as a managed service, and in Oracle or a third-party’s public cloud.

Oracle’s delivery of microservices for BRM is in line with larger trends in the telecoms industry. Over the last couple of years, several software vendors have released a cloud-native version of their BSS offering in an effort to address CSP needs for architectural flexibility and optimal scalability. Microservices is also rising in importance for CSPs that are looking to upgrade legacy IT systems. Ovum’s recent ICT Enterprise Insights survey revealed that migrating IT systems to a microservices architecture is an important business challenge for 73 percent of CSPs over the next 18 months.
